I love the space and intricacies around the drums, very tasteful. The riffs and vocals are huge. I appreciate the vocal variety with the cleans, deep growls, and the bleak yells. This is a great example of musicality. Everything just works. Go check out the rest of their discography! Ahab rules.

Alice M. I thought I didn’t like that band o( o_o )o I guess I got more open-minded or something. Also read Moby Dick a while ago (long, some would say dull, but oh so beautiful at times).
Kinda absurd to only have one previewable track here, though. Had to play that on YouTube (where it’s available officially…).

Arstaern Ilathar A wonderful album, it let you sink deep in a sea of beautiful melodies and heavy slow riffs! Ahab refined their style in this album. Favorite track: The Weedmen.

Solemn Melancholy of German Nautic Doomers

Pessimism can be so beautiful: German nautic doomers Ahab have not only created their very own subgenre, they are also incomparable dabblers in solemn melancholy! The Boats of the Glen Carrig is a novel by William Hope Hodgson from 1907 that tells the gruesome story of survival after shipwreck: the ice-cold embrace of the sea this as always has been turned to molten lead in the utmost atmospheric manner by Ahab! Since the band`s founding in late 2004, the four-piece has continuously worked its way to the top of (funeral) doom. The Boats of the Glen Carrig is their magnum opus and is gracefully nestled in between slow-motion anthems and haunting melodies.

I've never been able to pick a favorite before, but every single thing about this album is just perfection. Flawless production, god-level riffage, ride cymbal work that rings through to your bones, bass lines that perfectly accentuate the rhythm and the riffs, and of course HAIL MOLLUSCA Hatch
